Inside the chapel at Dublin Castle. The balcony is where the Viceroy of Ireland, the King or Queen of England's personal representative, sits.

All of the chapel's gothic details were made of wood and painted to look like stone.

The royal throne, where many Kings and Queens of England would sit during their visit, except Queen Victoria who stood in front of it because she didn't want to throne to dwarf her.

A lovely corner! This pub, O'Neill's, is where we ended up eating the first night. I had a tasty Shepard's Pie.

The bell tower holds a prominent place on Trinity's campus.

A long narrow hallway in Kilmainham Gaol. The picture shows individual cells, which was a major part of its design during prison reform because they believed that when many prisoners where in one large room, their bad influence spread to one another.

The newer area of Kilmainham Gaol shows how prison design progressed further to the more modern, large, open spaces instead of narrow hallways to allow the guards better surveillance over the prisoners.

The cross marks the place where many participants of the 1916 Easter Rebellion were controversially executed. Notably, James Connolly was the only one executed on the other side of the yard. Since he was severely injured during the rebellion, he was unable to make it to the far side of the yard, or even stand on his own, so he was tied to a chair and shot.

Hurricane Ophelia couldn't stop us from having a good time! Such a nice surprise to be able to hang out with so many of my South Bend friends in Dublin!
