No surprise but yet another week was full of exciting developments for both research and fun! Monday night a bunch of us watched Dr. Strange. Tuesday was exciting because an architecture student who also lives in Roncalli gave us a tour of the Roncalli Chapel. It was also interesting to have a conversation with him about design and the differences in our schooling. After the tour I watched a Champions League game with some people in the TV room.
Wednesday morning I fought off the rain and made my way to the Bavarian State Library to look at some books in search of some specific drawings. In the afternoon some of us fought the wind and attempted to play badminton. The weather cleared up in the evening, so I went on a nice walk and reflected on how awesome it is to be living in Munich. At night we watched another Champions League game.
Every semester our floor has a State-of-the-Union-type meeting, so on Thursday night we had our Stockwerkversammlung. All 18 floormates attended. I was especially proud of myself because I made a joke in German that made everybody laugh. After the business portion of the evening concluded, we had a party!
Friday was relatively relaxed. I went on another walk and later some of us watched a movie together. I also went on two runs this week. While I can’t say I enjoy the runs themselves, I enjoy partaking in a healthy lifestyle and bonding with floormates.
The weekend was incredibly exciting. On Saturday some of us went on a hike. We took the train to Mittenwald, a small town extremely close to the Austrian border. We intended to hike to the top of the Westlichen Karwendelspitze mountain, but we had to change our plans when we got to the tree line because of dangerous and snowy conditions. Since the hike wasn’t as long as we expected, we then took a train to Staffelsee, a lake on the way back to Munich, and sat on the shore while enjoying a beer. We made it back to Munich in the evening in time to watch the sunset from the Olympiaberg.
After going to Mass on Sunday, I went with two floormates to one of their brother’s apartment in order to grill, watch a Formula 1 race, kick around a soccer ball, and play a card game.
