The “Bayerische Hauptstaatsarchiv,” or the Main Bavarian State Archive, proved to be interesting and informative on my first visit. I am looking forward to further utilizing this archive.
A fun fact is that the light fixtures atop the light poles in front of the archive are actually Nazi relics, designed by the architect I am studying. They used to light the Nazi-renovated Königsplatz.
While I can’t claim to contribute to the quality of our floormate’s Greek themed dinner, I did help in minor ways like cutting vegetables and meat and making sure dishes got put in the oven at the right moment.
The next eight photos document the delicious Greek dinner and require no captions.

On Friday night I cooked an Indian-inspired dinner with a floormate.
This week was calmer than most, so I mostly worked and caught up on chores. On Monday I got a “Schnelltest,” or rapid (Covid) test, for some peace of mind after last weekend’s trip to Vienna. Afterward I enjoyed the nice weather by getting some ice cream. This trend continued the following day when, while walking with another Fulbrighter, we stopped for ice cream. In the evening some floormates hung out and had a beer in the Innenhof.

The biggest milestone of the week is that I finally got an appointment and made it into the “Bayerische Hauptstaatsarchive,” or the Main Bavarian State Archive, to look at some other documents that are part of the estate of Paul Ludwig Troost, the architect whom I am studying. This time around I was examining original sketches, letters, correspondences, and photographs. After my archive visit I hung out in the Olympic Park with a floormate for a bit before we returned to Roncalli and started grilling with the rest of our floor. Our floormate, who has a special interest in the culinary arts, decided to cook some Greek dishes for everybody to taste, and I helped with some very basic preparation.

The rest of the week was fairly relaxing. On Thursday I spent time with friends in the English Garden, did yoga, and ate in the Innenhof. On Friday a floormate and I cooked an Indian curry for dinner and then watched Hamilton! I’m glad the American history didn’t bore him. The next day we played some ping pong and cooked a Greek-inspired pasta. I did virtual Mass on Sunday morning, had Würstchen for lunch, and caught up with friends and family in the evening.
